Following the Government’s ‘Covid-19: Your Workplace’ guidance, infection control management will be paramount to the safety and wellbeing of staff.
The government recently produced the Covid-19 Secure guidance which highlights the steps and procedures employers need to implement to ensure staff is safe from infection at work as per the Health & Safety regulatory commitments. The published guidelines- Working Safely during coronavirus (Covid-19) highlights specific steps employers should take to ensure the risk of infection to staff is minimised. The one most noticeable aspect of the guidance is the repeated assertion that effective cleaning should be undertaken to ensure compliance with Government and health and safety rules.
The Government reinforced efficient cleaning processes by stating that workplaces should be cleaned more frequently, paying close attention to high contact objects like door handles and keyboards. Employers should provide handwashing facilities or hand sanitisers at entry and exit points.
Normal cleaning of inanimate surfaces is considered inadequate and will not eliminate all pathogens or biofilm, thus leaving fomites in the workplace and posing a risk to staff. Evidence suggests that a contaminated environment plays an important role in the spread of microorganisms, and if not thoroughly disinfected on a regular basis, may act as a reservoir for potential pathogens. Furthermore, high-frequency touch surfaces (door handles, computer keyboards, mouse, etc) require regular cleaning and disinfection to reduce bioburden in the environment.
Clinical Clean’s infection control technicians are trained to protect against cross-contamination by ensuring appropriate PPE are donned, and strict standard operating procedures are adhered to. An example of how we control cross-contamination during a deep clean involves cleaning from the cleanest surface area first and finishing in the dirtiest area and always start cleaning from the top to bottom.
At Clinical Clean we use market leading multi-spectrum disinfectant and cleaning techniques that have been proven to eliminate most pathogens (including coronavirus) at 99.999%. Furthermore, to prove the efficacy of our deep clean, we conduct a bioload swab test with our ATB Hygiene Monitoring System.
